Inspired by the wonderfully popular Twilight Series written by our fellow Arizonan, Stephenie Meyer, here is my new "Bella Rose" collection. Each pendant has a real rose petal suspended over a shimmering amber background with a silver butterfly in the center. Symbolizing love, death, and rebirth that is paramount in her fantastic vampire romance novels, my pendants are named after the beautiful Bella Swan and they symbolize her love with the brooding, yet sweet golden-eyed vampire named Edward.

A Love Affair with Pencils

Not only do I make jewelry, but my first love is actually drawing. Here is a portrait that is drawn by me of Marilyn Monroe that is for sale in my store now.

I have been drawing since I was very little. My earliest memory of making art occurred about 24 years ago. I painted a picture of my Dad’s blue, four door truck when I was about 4. I managed to get the black wheels, windshield, bed of the truck, and side windows pretty accurately depicted so that it actually looked like the real thing. My Dad was so proud of it he took it to work and showed it off to all his friends. Since my Dad (back then) happened to be a tough guy who rarely showed his emotions, I thought that was pretty nifty of him to do so. I think I still love the fact he did that for me all those years ago. My Dad is the bomb. He made his little girl so happy that she continues to make art 2 decades later.

Self Portrait Challenge - BLUE

Blue happens to be my favorite color. It's also the color of my eyes - which were given to me by my birthfather. I'm an adoptee, and I always wondered where I got my eyes from. After searching for my birthparents, now I know. And it's so neat to have someone out there who looks like me.

One of my favorite places blue shows up a lot - especially in Arizona where it never rains - is the sky!

This one was taken by me near Sunset Point, right here in Arizona.


This one is near Prescott, Arizona.


But by far, my most favorite nature-inspired blue creation is the Ocean. So much so that I named my daughter after it. Her name is Maren, from the Latin word meaning "the sea." Here is one of my favorite photos from a few years back when we took her to California to get her baby toes wet in the foaming waves of the deep blue ocean. This epitomizes the word "blue" for me - joy, beauty, life, happiness, innocence, and pure perfection.

I love going for walks with my daughter. They are my favorite time to reflect, get some exercise, and enjoy the sunshine with her. I love the innocence of children. Every time my daughter would see a dandelion she would squeal in delight, pick it gently, and then blow it to smithereens within a few puffs. What fun!

Self-Portrait Challenge: Celebration

EDIT: I apologize for posting this link twice in 2 weeks, I'm still new at this and didn't realize until after my old one was already up on SPC that I was supposed to post a NEW celebration post for this week. OOPS!

I'm brand new to this Self Portrait Challenge idea, but I love the concept of it and can't wait to bring out my inner self-expressionistic artiste! This month's challenge is Celebration.

There is nothing better to a native Phoenician living in the hot, arid Arizona desert than SNOW!! We never see it down here, however it's only a quick 90 minute drive up north to Flagstaff and presto - snow!! Here I am relishing a little piece of Mother Nature with my daughter .
